Snowball the Cockatoo
Submitted by dale on October 16, 2007 - 1:54pm.
This is too fun not to post!
What does a cockatoo named Snowball and the Backstreet Boys have in common, follow this link to the video or click on the picture to find out.
I'm not giving too much away when I say it's better than Hamster Dance!
Back from SiWC 2007
Submitted by dale on October 21, 2007 - 10:56pm.I'm soooo tired but it's been a great weekend at the Surrey International Writers' Conference. Me and 800 other authors plus a miscellaneous assortment of editors, agents, and producers at a 3 day writing geek-fest.
I have a running summary of notes I was trying to edit into a post-able state but the 3 days away caught up to me too quick in the form of a couple of 1 hour phone calls. I'm really going to try to get my notes posted while it's still October and they're still relevant, but for tonight this is all you get!

LOLCat Bible Translation Project
Submitted by dale on October 23, 2007 - 10:07pm.When I first saw the LOLCat stuff I laughed but never thought it had legs. This latest find by Kris Krüg leaves me gob smacked:
LOLCat Bible Translation Project
This is a new translation wiki to get the entire Bible translated into kitty pidgin (the language of lolcats). Zotnix saw a link to a picture with this done to Genesis and thought, "Why not the whole darned book?"

My Thanksgiving "Adventure"
Submitted by dale on October 26, 2007 - 9:49pm.Did you note the word adventure in quotes? Good.
I wasn't looking for an adventure, but one found me. On my way to a family Thanksgiving in Vernon my car developed a little problem ... I couldn't shift. Well, that's not exactly true. I could kind of, sort of shift if I didn't mind lots of grinding sounds and horrible thumps. And I did mind.
When it first happened just outside of Merritt I wasn't even sure there was a problem. There was a thump when I shifted, but I thought I'd hit a bump. As I turned off the Coquihalla Highway (Highway 5) onto the Kelowna Connector (Highway 97c), I knew the thump wasn't a bump.
Mai Wii
Submitted by dale on October 29, 2007 - 3:43pm.
After many years of gaming on my PC I finally broke down and bought a gaming console. PC games have become such a royal pain in the ass with compatibility issues and the game industry's ever increasing thirst for more video and CPU horsepower. Time to move on. I'm now the happy owner of a Wii (pronounced "we").
Why now? The idea of games involving physical motion sounded pretty cool. I wanted to wait and see if the reality held up to the hype. It has. More importantly, a friend bought one and I got to check it out first hand. I enjoyed myself. Bonus, it also plays Game Cube games (though you need Game Cube controllers to do it). There's a couple Game Cube games I enjoy playing so this was icing on the cake.
The only Wii game I own so far is the Sports game that came with it. The tennis game confuses me, baseball is boring - just like in real life, but the bowling game is fun every now and then. Especially now that I've learned how to avoid "Wii shoulder" from "throwing" the ball too hard. I'm currently playing the Lego Star Wars II for Game Cube. It's silly and a lot fun. Perfect for an hour or two of unwinding.
And no, the broken window a while back was not caused by an errant controller slipping from my hand. I have a receipt to prove it happened before I bought the Wii!
Lightning Strike!

Defense Tech has a photo of the actual strike, as well.
My Friend the Fool
Submitted by dale on October 30, 2007 - 2:40pm.My friend Ken and I have called each other fools, and sometimes worse, a number of times since we've know each other. Now I can call Ken a Fool, and he won't mind a bit!
Introducing one of The Motley Fool's newest writers, Kenneth M. McDonald, and his first article: Cheap Insurance for Your Portfolio.
Ken has researched stock since the day I've known him, and not only loves sharing the information but actively discussing it. My lack of interest in the financial minutia makes me something of an inferior discussion partner. I think this outlet will prove more fruitful!
Congrats to Ken. I hope it's the start of something wonderful.
