Book Crossing Catch & Release Map

Book Crossing is the practice of leaving a book in a public place for someone else to pick up and enjoy. When that someone else had read the book, he or she does the same. The practice has become common enough that the word bookcrossing made it into the Concise Oxford English Dictionary in 2004 (not that anyone actually cares about dictionary these days).

Along the way a company named Humankind Systems created a Book Crossing website at It has one of the coolest yet well hidden maps features I've seen to date. Under an easily missed link named "catch/release map" there lies a dynamically updated map of books that have registered a caught or released:

Catch & Release Map

It doesn't look as cool in a static picture. You really need to go at the site so you too can be hypnotized as the different books pop up all over the world!

Thanks go to Marina for pointing this out! I would have never spotted it. And one of these days I'm really going to have to create a profile at the website since I'm already attending the local Vancouver Meetup.
