Emerald City Comicon 2010

ECCC 2010 Badge & GuideWhen you say the words: Comic books, science fiction, and road trip in a sentence you have my attention!

The 8th annual Emerald City Comicon (ECCC) was last week. I joined a couple friends for a weekend in Seattle to get my geek on at my first ever comicon. My interest in comics isn't big enough by itself to draw me south of the border. However, ECCC has a SciFi/Fantasy pop culture element which included talks by Leonard Nimoy and Wil Wheaton, both people I'd like to hear, and some interesting panels. I was in. Would I regret it?

Toy Traders

Toy Traders ExteriorYesterday my friends introduced me to a store that has my vote as THE best toy store in the greater Vancouver area. It come up in conversation at Sunday's Dublin Crossing brunch when I asked if there were any good toy stores in Langley (I had a birthday present to buy). "Didn't I know about Toy Traders" they asked, a little surprised? Well no, I didn't. That's fixed, now.

Toy Traders is located on the Langley Bypass across from Willowbrook Mall. I'd have never found it on my own. If by some remote chance I had seen the store front but only peeked through the door, I'd have walked away. As you enter the store your first sight is toys for kids under 10. It isn't until you walk past the first row of shelves and see a full sized R2D2 that you get an inkling of the figurine and action figure goodness that awaits you.

Star Trek: The Fall of Captain Kirk

I agree with Anil Dash, this video made by high school students for an English class is very cool:

It reminded me of a comedy sketch done by Wayne and Shuster called Rinse the Blood Off my Toga. Both are combining Shakespeare and pop culture for fun results.

Monty Trek

Oh noes, is that Camelot on the view screen of the star ship Enterprise? Are we on a collision course? See what happens when Monty Python and Star Trek collide!!!
